Meet Bill

I am a native Illinoisan, hailing from Orland Park, and moved to Batavia in 2005. My family includes my wife Kim, twin sons (BHS graduates now in college), and two failed foster dogs. My extended family includes four grandchildren who call me “Poppy.”

In May 2013, after 29 years in the food service industry, I became an unemployed, displaced worker. After a long, unproductive job search, I explored opportunities with the non-profit groups where I was volunteering and learned that I lacked the required qualifications for employment. I decided to pursue a degree in the field of Human Services. I started my path at Elgin Community College and transferred to Aurora University, earning my Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2018.

I love my work as a Social Worker/Restorative Practice Facilitator in school district 93 which spans Carol Stream, Bloomingdale, and Hanover Park. I am engaged in my community and volunteer with local non-profit agencies that support my interests and passions including youth services, child advocacy, education, restorative justice, mental health & wellness, social services, human services, public health, animal welfare, veteran’s assistance, training & workshop facilitation, and equity diversity & inclusion.

More About Bill

I am not a career politician, but I decided to run for the County Board District 10 seat in 2022 because of the challenges our community was facing. Most certainly, my professional experience as a school social worker and restorative practice facilitator skills support me to be an effective Board Member. My committee appointments include vice-chair of Energy & Environmental, Human Services, Public Health, in addition to serving as a commissioner on the Kane County Forest Preserve.

As a board member, I believe I have been an effective communicator responding to all constituent concerns, and fostering teamwork and collaboration amongst board members. I have been a strong advocate for public health and mental health services, sustainability initiatives, careful monitoring of revenue and expenses, and efforts to secure a responsible bidder ordinance. I have supported steps to ensure county employees have fair and equitable compensation and benefits.

I continue to volunteer with local nonprofits serving as the President of Norman B. Barr Camp, the Committee Chair of Boy Scout Troop 21 and Crew 21, charted by Batavia VFW Post 1197, and Suicide Prevention Services of America where Kim, my spouse, my sons and I support fundraising events and work to fight the stigma associated with mental health illnesses. My interests and passions include child advocacy, youth services, public health, veterans' assistance, training and workshop facilitation, equity diversity & inclusion, and social service agencies that help families during times of crisis.

My past experience serving as the treasurer of a nonprofit organization for 10 years support my ability to budget conservatively, closely monitor revenue, and invest wisely. I recognize the importance of keeping our taxes in check while maintaining and improving the high level of services that make our communities strong. As a resident of Batavia for 17 years, I am running to ensure that Kane County remains our number one choice to live, work, and play.

Why am I running for Kane County Board, 10th District?

I am not a politician. I am committed to serving my community. We need folks like “us” involved in making decisions about us, our work, and our communities. I want Kane County to be the number one choice for people to live, to WORK, to raise their families, and to play.

Since moving to Batavia in 2005, I’ve supported and volunteered for a variety of local social service support agencies, youth programs, and community outreach organizations. I’ve tried to make positive change in our community.  These experiences were the primary reason behind my motivation to run for the Kane County Board to represent the 10th district; they remain my motivation, and they are the reason I am a social worker today. One of the most important things that I do is listen. I then seek to understand, recognize the harm, and take steps to repair harm and restore relationships.

In my role as a school social worker, I strive to ensure restorative practices are in place to support student success. Restorative practice is a social science that builds and repairs relationships between people and communities. This skill makes me uniquely qualified to serve as a member of the Kane County Board.  I use my professional background, leadership, and life experiences to ensure inclusive representation on behalf of the Kane County 10th District residents. As your voice on the Kane County Board, I have responded to all constituent concerns, consulted with residents outside of my circle, welcome diverse perspectives, and foster a culture of belonging.

I served as the treasurer of a non-profit organization for 10 years. I understand the need to conservatively budget, closely monitor revenue and expenses, and wisely invest. I am also a homeowner and taxpayer; I have worked to avoid increasing our tax burden, but more importantly, ensure that we get maximum value from our tax dollars. I am committed to spending your money wisely and to making fiscally responsible decisions. I believe that it is possible to keep our taxes in check AND maintain and improve the high level of services that make our communities strong.

I care about equitable, high quality, affordable education. I support partnering  with local providers of early intervention services, K-12 school districts, and local higher education institutions to maximize achievement and potential of students of all ages.

I, like many others, have experienced the impact of depression, anxiety, and suicide in my own family. Many of us love and care about people with mental illness and substance abuse disorders. The Kane County Board has an important role to play in directing funds and resources to support mental health needs, in addition to public health services needed throughout the county.

As your representative on the Kane County Board, I do the work necessary to ensure I fully understand issues and their impact on the 10th District and all of Kane County before voting. I stand by my principals and commitment to service. If re-elected, I will continue to focus on what is best for the residents of Kane County, relying on a collaborative approach to solve problems and address issues rather than engage in partisan politics.
